I am also making progress towards a less cruel diet. In April of 2015 I decided I was done with meat. This year I am working towards eliminating most dairy products. This is actually making me a healthier athlete, a happier person, and a better animal advocate. It helps me to try foods I wouldn't have normally tried before, and makes me more creative in my meals. Gone are the days of having meat front and center of my plate. My eating habits are slowly changing the habits of those around me. My students ask me about my lunches all the time and it has been a great way to start conversations with young people who truly have the opportunity to change the world. My niece has even convinced her mom and dad to try "Meatless Monday", which they are all enjoying. Change takes time. Be patient and your gradual progress will turn into permanent lifestyle.
Whatever life you live, know that people are watching even when you don't know anyone is looking. Live a life you are proud of. You will always have an impact on those around you. It is up to you to decide if that impact will be positive or negative.
Go out there and change the world!
