Except today.
Already being frustrated that my Monday swim workout was cut short because of a broken pump at the pool, I was hoping to get that workout back today. On Monday I was 48 minutes into my workout and getting ready to start the main set when a lifeguard came over and told me they were closing the pool because the pump was broken. Turns out it was the dehumidifier, but either way the pool closed and I tried to hide my disappointment. Damn, I was so close to getting in an awesome workout! Today when I woke up, my first thought was, "Uh oh." My throat hurt and I was having trouble getting a full breath of air. I hoped that by the time I got to the gym everything would pass and I would be fine. After the first 100 yards I was gassed. At no point was I able to get a good breath of air. I felt like an asthmatic who couldn't breath. I kept trying to clear my throat but nothing got better. After 500 yards I said, "Okay, scratch the workout, just swim for 30 minutes and call it." At 18 minutes things were getting worse so I got myself through 20 minutes and got out of the pool. Frustrated and winded, the truth was the pool defeated me today. I swam 700 yards. Hardly worth getting wet for. They say a short workout is better than no workout, but I say a bad workout pisses me off more than sleeping through a workout so in some sense I should have just stayed in bed all day. I don't mean to sound negative, but today's workout is one of those where you are just pissed.
I have a 100k bike ride this weekend that I hope I am prepared for. Yesterday I spend a good chunk of time trying to fix a flat tire. This time it was a flat in the front and I thought, "I am going to fix this myself!" I got the tire off, pulled out the tube, found the hole, patched it, put everything back together and: it still leaked. I took the wheel and tire to Babit's Bikes and they determined that the tube probably needed to be replaced. They sent me home to try to fix it myself. Again, I said, "You got this. Pretend you're out on a country road and you have to fix this yourself." I sat down, changed the tube, put it back on the wheel and couldn't get the tire back on the wheel. I tried for a while to get one side on the wheel and I was unsuccessful. I started to get mad so I walked away for a bit. Then I went back, messed with it some more and STILL nothing! I drove back to Babit's Bikes and had them help me put the tire back on. Turns out it doesnt take tools, just strong hands to get the tire back on. Feeling defeated, I took the wheel home, put air in it and put it back on the frame. At least I could figure out THAT part. Practice makes perfect, I just hate that I feel like I still can't do it all by myself.
Tomorrow is a new day. I just have to breathe (haha, sounds easy) and press on! 100k ready or not, here I come!
