I was excited to start this run basically because it's the first run in a while that I have been able to download from my tri plan on Garmin Connect. I've had some issues getting my calendar to load to the watch so this was especially exciting. I know that sounds lame, but runners get it!
The whole time I ran I just kept thinking, "Traffic must think I am insane or that I am truly running from something because no person in there right mind would be out in this sort of weather!" I am inspired by Tyler who will run in anything. ANYTHING. He bought grips for his shoes so that be can run on ice. ICE I said!! I have never met a person who hates the dreadmill (treadmill) more than he does. Speaking of which, did you know that the treadmills at the gym where invented in prison?? Here's a little story for you:
During the Victorian Era, British engineer William Cubitt invented the prison treadmill. Installed for hard labor, these treadmills were designed as a means to usefully employ convicts and use their power to be productive. The prisoner would simply work the wheel to produce power to grind corn and pump water, although some served no purpose at all other than punishment. Eventually The Prisons Act of 1889 abolished hard labor and instead recognised that labor within prisons should have a constructive purpose.

Okay, so back to my run... I am happy with the effort and I am feeling some improvement as the plan goes on. I am excited to be writing about day 10.... I usually have a hard time sticking to any formal plan so that fact that I have lasted this long is saying something about my determination! The average pace for this run is a bit deceiving because of the format of the run: Run easy for 15 minutes, medium pace for 8 minutes, hard pace for 4 minutes, easy for 5 minutes, cool down. I had to back off my easy pace so that I had the ability to hold the faster paces for the required time. I assure you this workout was hard! Add to that 10 mph sustained winds and wind gusts much higher, you have yourself a nice little challenge!
Total Distance:3.07 miles
Total Time: 34:44
Average Pace: 11:20 min/mile
Today's Mantra: The blog made me do it!
