![]() At this point in the triathlon training cycle, I am enjoying this thing they call the "off season". This past week I took completely off because I donated blood last Saturday. After learning this past year that my iron levels are ridiculously high, it turns out that I am eligible to donate double red blood cells. The advantage is that your donation is used faster (trauma victims need this!) and you get your fluids back. The downside is that red blood cells are the cells that carry oxygen to your muscles. This means that a simple run gets you completely winded! On Sunday I tried exercising during commercial breaks while watching the NYC Marathon and I had a hard time just doing 10 push-ups. Later in the week I tried more light exercise and my body was saying NO!! So, I listened and decided it was best to take a week off anyway. I'm saving a life, so it's worth it! Tomorrow is a half day at school (parent/teacher conferences) so my plan is to leave school and swim before heading back to school to start my meetings. You might be a triathlete . . . ![]() Last week I renewed my USAT membership and received a free training plan through Training Peaks. I thought I was going to be able to pick out anything on Training Peaks, but the offer was a little misleading and it turns out that I only can pick out one BASE plan for a distance. I of course picked out the 70. 3 plan and it looks like my plan begins on Monday, January 5th, 2015. It is only 12 weeks but it will build a solid base from which I will then have an 11 week build and peak plan. This sets me up pretty good for my half iron in May. There is so much to plan for this event and it is time consuming simply making a plan. I think about all the things I need to fit in each week and I am interested in seeing just how all this is going to pan out. It must be nice being a professional athlete where all you have to worry about is your next workout. I would like to see them train like that with a full time job and other life responsibilities. I don't wish to trade places necessarily. I love my place in the world, I just wish there were 30 hours in a day. Either that or I wish I could function on 2 hours of sleep. Either or. I'm not picky. The real training will be here before I know it. In the meantime, I have been taking steps to drop some weight and at this point I've lost almost 7 pounds so the scale is going in the right direction. I'm not sure what my magic number is but I am confident that my pre-training will get me right where I need to be in January. I'm so excited for training to begin that I wish it was already here! I could go ahead and skip the holidays and just dive right into training. . . If only it was that simple!
