I definitely have my work cut out for me. Last year I signed up to be on the waiting list and the whole time I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn't figure out how exactly I was supposed to train for this race. Now that I have attempted the distance once, I have a good understanding of what I need to do better for the second time. Mainly, I just need to get in more weekly miles. Seems simple enough, right? It is incredibly tempting to stay in bed when it's too cold (or too hot) but this time I really have to get it together. On those days where I feel like I just want to stay in bed, I will have to remind myself of how defeated I felt after not reaching my goal last year. It's encouraging too, that I have someone who will do some of those miles of training with me. My mantra this year is "Stay committed to the end goal. You got this!"
In the past, my training is almost all done at night (my favorite time for getting in miles) with either music or a podcast. A couple months ago I downloaded the Audible app from Amazon and started listening to books that I'm too busy (or lazy) to read. I think this will be a good motivator with training. I can download a book and then plan to walk/run for the whole book. Most of the books I listen to are 7 hours in length, so perfect for some of those long distance days! I guess I should start working on my Audible wishlist!
I'm excited about what the new year will bring. Years that end with an even number tend to be years where the sky is the limit for me. Lets do this....
