Won a cool multi-tool for my bike. I use that thing all the time! I wish I could always have transitions that quick!

Ironman Raleigh 70. 3 - May 31, 2015
1. 2 miles, 56 miles, 13. 1 miles (Against all odds, first time with this distance!)
Age Group: 101 Gender: 621 Overall: 1979
--------------------------
Overall: 8:17:12 (Damn! But I'll take it.... consider what happened 5 weeks ago, and the weather!)
Swim: 1:02:57
T1: 8:20 (I was in no hurry because I wanted to make sure I was ready for the ride ahead!)
Bike: 3:53:54
T2: 7:31 (The heat was kicking my ass. Needed more sunscreen so I took my time.)
Run: 3:04:30 (I walked most of it.. No shade, 100+ degrees, rolling hills)
Notes: I decided to wear a wetsuit, even though the race was not wetsuit legal. I decided starting in the last wave was worth not drowning in Jordan Lake! Most amazing experience to be part of something like this. I will never forget the heat. The heat index was in the low 100's on the bike and run. The run was two loops and they bring you one block from the finish line before sending you on loop two. I remember crying every time someone said "Good Job! You got this!" because I was so tired and so ready to be done... One thing that kept me going was knowing I could only get a tattoo if I finished the damn thing. Which of course I did, because I am a warrior! And yes, I did a cartwheel after I crossed the finishline... I also had a Starbucks drink waiting for me!

Notes: Showed up and realized it was the same course as Girls Run the World (plus an extra 2.5 miles on the bike) from last year which mean't one thing: That damn hill! Dropped the chain going up a steep hill. Had to dismount and get it back on the chainring. Had grease everywhere... John told me later that shifting can get the chain back on. Now I know.... And have since had experience with that exact situation and it worked. Felt awesome! Oh, and since I did the whole series, I got a really sweet medal! One strong memory with this race was being in tears beside the pool. I had to say goodbye to Justus 9 days ago so the feelings were strong. This race was for him. I was balling beside the pool while I waited for my turn to begin. I dont think anyone noticed because when the tears started, I tried to walk away from the crowd. Such an emotional race...
